Southern Pecan Milkshakes & a Giveaway

When I was a kid, my dad was the king of two things: hamburgers and milkshakes. My dad could eat a hamburger for every meal of the day. And he could quite happily drink a vanilla milkshake every day too. (Not that my mother would ever let him.)

The other day, James and I received our Green Mountain Coffee shipment for the month. In it, I had chosen one of my favorite Southern treats, their Southern Pecan blend.

The coffee on its own elicits scents of the pies my home is made of. Pecans are a cash crop of Texas, and pecan pie is one of our specialties, and one of my dad’s favorite kinds of pie.

The more I thought about the glorious sweet and nutty tones of the Southern Pecan coffee, the more I knew that I had to pair it with vanilla ice cream.

You see, my dad is the definition of a Texan. He loves pecans, and pecan pie. When it comes to milkshakes, however, he was never the guy to go for the more exciting chocolate or strawberry milkshakes Whataburger had to offer. He appreciated the simple brilliance of a beautifully creamy vanilla milkshake over anything else.

I just know, though, that when I combine his favorite milkshake flavor with his favorite pie flavor, I’ve got a winner. Father’s Day is on Sunday, and if I could, I’d make this milkshake for my dad.

I can’t wait to send him a West Bend Milkshake Maker so he can make his own Southern Pecan milkshakes. At least if we can’t be together this Father’s Day, we can toast our Southern Pecan milkshakes together over the phone.

P.S. If you’re wondering about that buttery caramel popcorn it’s paired with in the photo, the recipe for that will come later this week. Talk about a match made in Heaven.

Southern Pecan Milkshake

Serves 1

Ingredients
1/2 cup vanilla bean ice cream
1/8 cup Green Mountain Southern Pecan coffee
2 tbsp chocolate sauce to drizzle

Directions
Combine ice cream and coffee in the cup of the West Bend Milk Shake Maker. Blend until of desired consistency.

Drizzle with chocolate sauce as desired.
